Michael Ciotti
Heading into his 13th season of coaching, Coach Ciotti is expecting to have a very successful year. Prior to becoming Latrobe’s head coach, Coach Ciotti served as the head coach of Hawaii’s Kealakehe High School for seven years before returning to the mainland where he became an assistant coach at Franklin Regional and Taylor Allderdice.
Coach Ciotti is a 2002 graduate of Greater Latrobe High School. He was a three-time Section Champion, Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) Champion, three-time state qualifier, two-time state place winner, a PIAA State finalist his senior season and he was selected to compete in the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic for the WPIAL Team. Coach Ciotti also competed in Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling for Team Pennsylvania at Fargo, North Dakota. He was also a two time recipient of Greater Latrobe’s notable “Most Athletic” award.
Coach Ciotti continued his academic and athletic endeavors at the University of Pittsburgh. He majored in Rhetoric and Communications, received a minor in Coaching and received a Master of Arts in Teaching. Fluctuating between 133, 141 and 149 pound weight classes, Coach Ciotti became a four year letterman, four time Eastern Wrestling League place winner and a Division I National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) qualifier. His senior year, Coach Ciotti led the team with the most dual meet wins. Coach Ciotti exemplified what is expected of the student-athlete as he became a member of the University of Pittsburgh’s Academic Honor Roll and received the “Most Improved Wrestler” award as a senior.
Michael Paul Ciotti, born on June 5, 1984, is the son of Paul and Joyce Ciotti. He has two sisters, Jessica Ciotti Hightower and Kimberly Ciotti, both of whom graduated from Greater Latrobe High School and have gone on to pursue careers in aeronautics and healthcare administration.
Chad Schmeling
Coach Chad Schmeling will begin his 6th year as a coach with the Greater Latrobe Wrestling Program. He spent 3 years as Coach Tad Harbert’s Assistant and is entering his 2nd year as the Jr. High Head Wrestling Coach. Coach Schmeling is a 2007 graduate of Greater Latrobe. As a Wildcat wrestler, he was a Section Champion at Heavyweight, Powerade and King of the Mountain placer as well as a two time WCCA placewinner. He was a two year lettermen and a two time most improved wrestler for Greater Latrobe. On the football field, he was a 2 year letterman, Captain and received the vote for the most enthusiastic / leadership award. As a senior, he earned 2nd team all conference as a Guard as well as being elected to play on the Foothills Allstar Football Classic. Coach Schmeling graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2012 earning a B.S. in Elementary and Special Education Magna Cum Laude. During college, he participated on the IUP club wrestling team and coached GLAMFA varsity football as well as Junior Olympic Wrestling for Latrobe. Chad is in his 4th year as a Life Skills Learning Support teacher at Greater Latrobe Junior/Senior High and his 4th year as the Head 8th grade football coach. He resides in Unity Township.
